Resolutions vs. Goals
Oh, I bet you did.
So, it’s 2010. Whaddup, New Decade. I don’t really make resolutions for each new year, but I did actually set some goals for myself for '10. (And I hardly ever set goals…I prefer laziness and self-loathing over accomplishment, so please understand that this goal setting is big news. BIG NEWS.)
I know you’re thinking, what’s the difference between resolutions and goals? Well, let me explain:
Resolutions (“a formal expression of opinion or intention made”) are beginnings and lack action. For example, “I will start going to the gym” is only a statement (one which gyms make good, good money off of every January 1). Goals (“the result or achievement toward which effort is directed”) are endings as a result of action. For example, “I am a gym goer who would like to bench ten more pounds by March” means that you are making an effort to achieve something rather than just saying that you will. Resolutions and goals are not mutually exclusive, but only making a resolution will inevitably result in disaster if you don’t have a goal in mind.
Eh, it makes sense to me. It may just be semantics to you. Tomato, tomahto. Suck it.
Anyway, here are my goals in no particular order:
Less time in my Slanket (i.e. Don't be so lazy)—This includes but is not limited to: my gym habits, writing habits, sleeping habits, dog-walking habits, sex habits and eating habits. I do actually have specific goals tied to each of these things, but I'm too lazy to write them right now.
Write something non-drivel-ish—I’d like to see my name in the pages of something, I dunno, “serious”, rather than just the pages of a place that declares classily, “This My Blog, Bitches.” I mean, I like it here and all, but why torture just you guys when I can torture an entire demographic?
Save an undisclosed amount of money
Finish up my 31 before 31 list—Not too many left, so if I meet the non-lazy goal I mentioned above, I should be in good shape by 2011.
What are your goals this year?
