31 before 31: #4 Finish Decorating My Main Living Space

OK, so I actually finished this one back in September BEFORE the old birthday, but it took me forever to edit the pictures (I pretty much suck balls on Photoshop).

My style is what I guess I'd call "clean eclectic".  I really like clean lines, pops of color and small, quirky touches.  While I don't necessarily buy into Feng Shui, I do have to feel as though my home is in visual balance, so I play with scale and arrangement a lot.  Anyway, without further ado:

Our living space is open concept, so I first painted all the walls a super light grey.  I love how it makes everything--even white!--pop.  This view is from the living area into the bar/dining/kitchen.  The Fur Kids love that darn rug from IKEA, which handily shows neither their hair nor throw-up (thanks, cats).  The wine racks on top of the little bar area are also from IKEA.

You can see my cool half-globe fish bowl on the wall.  It contains Edward the Fish.  The best part about the bowl is that it's clear, so I can put fun paper behind it to make it more like wall art.  Currently, Edward's home is zebra striped.

You'll see a small pig and frog on my counter...they've been in my family since a few great grandmother's back.  I'm not a super fan of kitsch, but they get to stay.  :)

Here's a close up view of our living space.  You'll see Straight and Narrow FLOR tiles in Lime, a cool tiny sectional we found online that fits our space PERFECTLY and converts easily to a love seat and sofa, and pillows by CB2 and Urban Outfitters.  Cat by The Lord.

This shows the "wide" view of our living space (ha!).  The Boyfriend's grandfather made the fantastic kidney shaped coffee table.  The tree decal is by Dali Decals (we really wanted this one), clock from TJMaxx, the light from CB2, the shelves are from Target, and the candles from TJMaxx.  I did the paintings.  The white side tables are from a local furniture store and the Eames chair knock-off was in The Boyfriend's parent's garage.

Aaand from the other angle.  This shows a bit of the bookshelves I installed under our great window that overlooks our hill and lets in tons of pretty morning light.  The metal candle votives are from IKEA.

Here's the full view of the bookshelf.  (Yes, I do arrange my books by color.) The shelves are just the cheapy wall mounted, adjustable kind that you get at Home Depot or Lowes.  I love these shelves because of how customizable (and eventually, portable!) they are.  Case in point:

The Boyfriend and I made our own media center after we discovered that all the media centers we liked were at least $300 (or more).  The speakers were an old hand-me-down from family friends of The Boyfriend that we painted white.  Boxes are from IKEA.  The pictures are pieces from an old Stendig calendar and the tchotchkes are finds from IKEA, craft stores, TJMaxx, Target, CB2 and target.

And last but not least--just because he's a handsome fellow--here's my poor, neurotic dog Pippin whose good looks often save his little doggy life.

What's your style?  What makes you feel at home?

I really, really like your living room! Can I move in with you guys? I'm a very civil guest, I promise.
The kidney table is awesome. But my absolute favorite item is the WTF calendar. It blew my mind!

And also, "Cat by The Lord"... where do you come up with that stuff? :))))

I also like eclectic style with a splash of vintage, and lots and lots of color!
When we move out of this crappy apartment (hopefully really soon) I'm planning on adding a splash of teal and gold in our living room.

Love the decor but I gotta say, the animals really complete it.

Very cool to see inside where someone lives.
Great flat!

@sarah von Thanks!
@Alexandra You may move in. You'll be responsible for 80% of the rent and the litter box. That's just in the guest clause, sorry. Also, I am not sure where I come up with things. I'm guessing it's NOT the Lord.
@Erin Yes, the animals do complete it. Actually, when I pull out the camera, the dog literally starts posing and the cats begin to clean their no-no's, so it's always pretty fun.
@Being Samiantha Thanks...aren't you glad I'm not a candidate for that show Hoarders? :)

Love the fresh & clean aesthetics ! I'd throw the books of that shelf though, and make it into a window seat.

That Eames chair is divine...

I like the red accents with the tree silhouette theme you have going on

Cosy, but still bursting with personality
