Product Review: Lime Crime Make-up

All the single ladies (all the single ladies), put your hands up…for some make-up.

And may that go down as one of the lamest opening lines of a post ever.

photo here!Anyway, I made my first purchase ever from Lime CrimeMake-up Goddess of the Interwebz Doe Deere’s personal make-up line.  I definitely admire Doe’s creativity and inspiration with makeup “so bright, it’s illegal” and though I don’t have the chutzpah to wear most of the colors, I wanted to try at least ONE of the amazing hues for myself.

I ended up picking out one color (Nymph, which is the palest, shimmery gold) and the all-over finishing face powder.  The prices aren’t terrible ($12 for eye color, $15 for face), so my cart came to a little over thirty bucks.  Not bad, and cheaper than most stuff at Sephora.

When I got my package in the mail, I was so excited.

And then I opened the package.

In a word…TINY.  I was literally staring at the tiniest little pots of makeup I’d ever seen in my life.  I guess I don’t know what I was expecting, but I’ve seen keychain pill boxes that dwarf these things.

HOWEVER, this. makeup. is. awesome.  AND, who cares if they’re tiny, because honestly, you only have to dip your brush in the merest bit, and the eye color is so pigmented, just a smidge if enough for the whole eyelid.  I am in love with Nymph.  I’ve worn it alone, I’ve layered it over other colors (it made a boring gray look super special…so many compliments!), I’ve used it as a highlighter, and because you only need a touch, I haven’t even made a dent in the amount of makeup.

(Which is saying something because…TINY.)

photo here! And the face powder…don’t even get me started on the face powder and how amazing it makes my skin look.  The site claims that it gives you a “soft glow” effect, and it ain’t lyin’.  I look like freakin’ Greta Garbo on a daily basis.  My only complaint, again, would be the tiny size (the pot, though bigger than the eye color, is not conducive to bigger, fluffier powder or Kabuki brushes, and in fact, a smaller blush brush is a little too big for the pot), but the product is flawless.

All in all, I love the products and plan on buying more, especially now that she is releasing a line of lipstick.  Hotness will ensue.

I was looking at the Lime Crime line a few weeks ago after seeing the lovely Gala Darling wearing it, but I was too afraid to buy any of the eyeshadow pots. They're so bold and colorful and pretty, but I don't know if I could pull it off. I was really considering Nymph, though, so now that you've reviewed it, I might consider giving it a try someday.

That makeup is really pretty-vibrant and the like-but much too exciting for a chapstick-wearing girl like me. On you though, Red? HAWT.

I was shocked by the sizes too! When I got the face powder, my first thought was that it was a free sample and that she forgot to send me my real order, LOL! I also spent $100 on the dime-sized eye dusts, only to open them and realize I already own the exact same colors from other brands. I did a quick Google search and found out Limecrime is a repackaging company. They buy pigments wholesale from another company, put their own sticker on them, and sell for 5-10 times the price. Google "Limecrime repackaged". One girl actually emailed Lime Crime about how disappointed she was that LC claims to create their own unique colors but are really just selling someone else's product repackaged. Lime crime's response was that the other brands copy them. It doesn't make sense though because LC is a brand new store while the other sites selling the same product have been around for years! Seems a bit fishy. I can't say I'd buy from them again!

i will NEVER EVER buy from lime crime. i have heard SO much SHADY stuff about this company and the girl that runs it! understand i WAS an avid reader of her blog for over a year before finding out all of this!! just a few of the scandals include her hemming a dress with DUCT TAPE- here is the proof!! http://community.livejournal.com/meanestbastard/76936.html

others include a fake charity auction where she scammed her OWN READERS out of money that was supposed to go to an animal shelter, which when i think about truly makes me feel sick. and now this whole drama with the eyeshadow repackaging and IT IS TRUE, all she does is repackage plain mica and inflates the price about 1000%!!! please google and inform yourself before you give this scam artist your money!!!!!!!
