The Cliche' of Love

I just started reading a fascinating book called "Written on the Body"by Jeanette Winterson.  The narrator asks deep questions about love and loss.  One of the most interesting concepts so far is this:

It's the clichés that cause the trouble.  A precise emotion seeks a precise expression.  If what I feel is not precise then should I call it love?...I am desperately looking the other way so love won't see me.  I want the diluted version, the sloppy language, the insignificant gestures.  The saggy armchair of clichés.

What do you think?  Is love, in general, a cliche'?  Or do we technically feel emotions that are far more colored and complex than love?

Discuss.
