Weekly Writing Assignment Finalist!
Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 10:14PMBrand new website Weekly Writing Assignment just launched this month, and it is awesome. It hosts a fun and challenging weekly writing contest open to everyone, and also serves as a resource for writers of all kinds.
The first assignment was entitled "Random Words". Contestants had to write a kind of narrative in 300 words or less using fifteen random words provided by the site's author. After one week, five weekly finalists were chosen, aaaanddd...
WOOOOOOOO!!! That's me, beyotches! I wrote a depressing little story called "Settling" wherein I make all readers wish they could drink themselves to sleep after eating a tub of ice-cream while wearing a Snuggie.
Seriously, though, I'm so honored to be among the first finalists for this great site. Watch for winners to be announced Wednesday around noon.
For any of you other writers out there, this site is an awesome resource for tips, advice and practice. I think my favorite thing I've taken from the site so far is this quote from the author's old teacher:
"Writing is not about publishing and fame; it’s about making sense of the world."

"Depressing" is a good adjective for your story - it left me hoping that you were just relating the faint echoes of a past feeling, and not something you're currently living with. Great 300-word description, but...yuck. Thanks for reminding me to keep the bar set high.
