30 before 30: #15 Get a Fish Pedicure
Friday, July 10, 2009 at 10:38PM The lovely Maya and I headed over to Maison de Leumas today for our first ever fish pedicure. You know, one of those pedicures where a live animal eats the dead skin off your feet. We emerged our peds into a warm tank (the fish are tropical) and let the little buggers have breakfast. It felt like, as Maya said, "little tiny vibrators" on the bottom of our feet.
Totally weird, and yet, oddly, by the end of the appointment, it seemed like the most normal thing in the world. (Sorry, I had video on my phone, but it didn't turn out well!)
Would I do it again? Er, probably not. The lady that completed our pedicures espoused the virtues of the fish (that the spa pays $100 a pop for!) as the most "natural" way to smooth feet, but honestly, I missed the violence of a tiny aesthetician taking a huge file to my feet and scrubbing away. Overall, though, it was definitely an experience, and it was great to spend some time with Maya and her adorable son, Owen.
One more down...another to come next week. Stay tuned!

Uhm. Fish eat the dead skin off your feet? That's seriously effed up. I think I'd be too wigged out to enjoy it. At all.
